True Memoirs of An International Assassin

This is a Netflix movie billed as an action comedy starring Kevin James. James plays an author whose stories of daring superspy adventures come true in Central America. The film is intended to be hilarious and touching, but it is neither.

I enjoyed James in the TV series King of Queens, and generally enjoy the lovable, over confident, oafish character that he always plays. Yes, he’s a one trick pony. But any character, any actor, no matter how likable needs a story, and dialog. This film has neither.

If you like the general premise, here are a few very similar and better films to put on your watch list in case they appear on Netflix:  Stranger Than Fiction, Delirious, Deconstructing Harry, and of course The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (the Danny Kaye version).

So True Memoirs of an International Assassin gets a real life NO.
