The Magicians

Originally (and currently) a SyFy series, The Magicians is based on the trilogy of books by Lev Grossman. These books come highly recommended in the genre, though I confess I petered out somewhere in the first third of the third book. Just kinda…boring after a while.

I’m happy to say, though, that the series is way more compelling. More loosely following than dedicated to the books, the show is lively, fast-paced, interesting, intriguing, and difficult not to binge. The actors are either appealing or good looking, or both, and the production values are high enough that the magical bits look reasonable. Imagine the Harry Potter world, set in the chronology of graduate students with a lot more sex and cursing.

Is it worth it? Yes.
