This is the first of five films starring Clint Eastwood, who played the San Francisco police Inspector Harry Callahan.
With compelling background music, Inspector Callahan spent the entire 1 hour and 42 minute movie chasing one crazed psychopath called “Scorpio”. Scorpio randomly killed many people from rooftops with high caliber fire arms, as well as capturing some, including school children, and holding them for a mere $200,000 ransom. Well, this was 1971 and dollars were worth more then.
Harry was tough, perseverant, non-conforming and ruthless in his chase of Scorpio with guns blazing all to the sometimes consternation of his superiors. It was definitely exciting, edge-of- the-seat entertainment. Never a desire to take a coffee break.
This movie was followed by four sequels: Magnum Force, The Enforcer, Sudden Impact and The Dead Pool. They made Clint Eastwood a star.
My only disappointment was these iconic words didn’t come until the third sequel. They are:
“GO AHEAD, MAKE MY DAY”
Make yours. “Yes”, “Yes”, “Yes”.
Note: This movie is not available on streaming Netflix, only by DVD subscription.
